I am looking for a book! I have searched NoveList and sent in a plea to
pubyac. Nothing has turned up, so I thought maybe someone here might
recognize this book.

This is what I know:
The patron read the book about 30 years ago. She thinks it is about
4th grade reading level. The book is about a young girl who's
father had to hide her in the attic of a lighthouse during the Depression.
At night, the girl would see a female ghost walking along the beach. The
ghost turns out to be a real person.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?? It's starting to sound very familiar
to me, but I think that's because I have been looking for this title for
so long! I will be eternally grateful for any suggestions!

I was intrigued by this because it sounds familiar to me too! I went looking
and found that there is a Boxcar Children story that is similar to what you
are looking for. The title is the LIGHTHOUSE MYSTERY, by Gertrude Chandler
Warner. The kids are staying with their grandfather at a lighthouse on the
New England coast. "Jessie sees a mysterious woman walking on the grounds of
the lightouse late at night. Watch, Jessie's dog wakes up growling almost
every evening--at midnight. And Henry finds a puzzling not in the sand...
Many more strange things happen before the boxcar children can solve The
Lighthouse Mystery"

There were enough similarities between this book and the one that your
patron described. Hope it helps.
