RA Form

We have a form we call a reader profile. If you like I can fax you a copy.
The questions deal with appeal factors, something I think Mary K. will be
glad to note. We also rephrase the "Tell me about a book you read and
enjoyed" query. What little feedback I've gotten from customers has been
positive, and nobody's ever screamed at me that my recommendations totally
missed the mark. So I guess that means it works.

I spoke with one of the computer-services folks here, and we've come up
with a scathingly brilliant plan*. We are going to scan our Reader Profile
and Reader Profile Evaluation forms and put them up on our web site. It
will take us a few days to write a little accompanying text and do the
actual uploading, but as soon as it's ready I'll submit the URL to the
list. It should be up by Thursday at the latest.
Cordially,
Nora

A great idea! Is it Hayley Mills who says that, by the way? In one of those charming
sixties movies like the Parent Trap?
Nora, we use a version of your form here, but haven't yet promoted it in a big way.

Gary, and Roberta, and everybody else who got it right--
You all are so clever! Never try to play Trivial Pursuit with a librarian.

...especially those of you who wrote me and asked for this via fax or
snail mail - I wasn't ignoring you, just waiting until I could announce
the following:
My colleague the techno-guru has just informed me that she's loaded our
Reader Profile and Evaluation forms onto our web page. Here's the URL:
http://www.cumberland.lib.nc.us/profileform.htm
(note: this form isn't up for patrons to use online; we don't do that here
- yet.)
I'm not pretending that it's a perfect, infallible tool - but it's more
than what we had before, and we know that for RA, "doing something is
better than doing nothing." Consider it a starting-off point, if you
like. Please let me know (offlist) what you think of it.

Nora
