Does anyone remember a YA book about a fairy godmother and African-American

Wasn't there a tv movie starring Brandy and Whitney Houston along these lines?

The Brandy version was produced by Oprah I believe. I saw it again for
the umpteenth time just the other night. It is wonderfully eclectically
diverse. The queen is African American, the king is caucasian, the
prince is perhaps Asian, perhaps something else. Brandy's Cinderella
has one African American step-sister, and one Caucasian step-sister, and
their mother is played by Bernadette Peters.
It is a nice movie, but comes in a distant second to "Ever After" when
it comes to Cinderella movies.
Impossible things are happening every day!

I think you're thinking of Cinderella, actually. Brandy was Cindy, Whitney
was the FG, and a handsome young man (oriental?) was the prince. I think one
of the king was played by Jason Alexander. You might check IMDB for details,
if interested.
