Hi All!
I have a doozie question from a patron that I am hoping one of you will
answer. I'm stumped. My patron is looking for a series (?) of books centred
around Half-a-day Creek on the Yukon/Alaska border. He remembers 3
characters from the stories: Black John Smith, Lyme Cushing and Col.
Downing. He thinks the author is probably male and possibly Canadian. He
read these books before 1945. Does anyone have any idea? Please help. Thanks.

Hi All,
I posted this originally on March 7th but I'd like to re-post it because I
have additional info. My patron is looking for the name of a book (or
series?) centered around Half-a-Day Creek near the Yukon/Alaska border. He
remembers 3 characters from the story/stories: Black John Smith, Lyme
Cushing and Col. Downing. He thinks the author is probably male and likely
Canadian. He read these books BEFORE 1945 and remembers that they were
published in installments in Short Story Magazine (a la Dickens). Does
anyone have any idea? Thanks to Cynthia Orr for her suggestion but my
patron said that that wasn't the title (sorry I don't have the title handy).

Is it possible he is thinking of Ralph Connolly? (A pseudonym.) Connolly
was Canadian, pre-WW2, and wrote mostly about his own country.
