According to the Internet Movie Database this is not based on the Alice
Hoffman book - I was wondering about that myself!!

I am so thankful! I appreciate very much your clearing that
up. I'm not sure how anybody could do that book as a movie.

I probably missed the question that generated the above, but it sounds like
the plot of Erich Segal's Love Story.
