I've been asked to try to find out about a book, part of which was heard
being read on the radio. Any help will be much appreciated. Here is
what is known:
"The part I caught was first person about being the grown daughter (I
think) of a couple that decided to fight empty nest syndrome by getting
a Great Dane they named Melina. From then on it was as though their six
children had been failed experiments; the dog was their crowning
achievement. It went on for a while, and every paragraph or so had
wonderful deadpan humor."

I heard this story, it was on NPR on Sunday. The story was by
David Sedaris, and I think it was from a forthcoming book of stories
by him (rather than from something already published). Looking on
Amazon, I see he has a book coming in June, called Me Talk
Pretty One Day. This is a guess on my part since I haven't seen
the book. HTH,Alison

"Though my soul may set in darkness,
It will rise in perfect light,
I have loved the stars too fondly
To be fearful of the night...."
