I believe the author is Patrick D. Smith. His more popular novel of Florida
is "A land remembered" that spans back 100's of years. He's also written,
River is Home, Angel City, Forever Island and a few others I don't remember
at this time.

Patron is seeking an author who writes Florida crime novels with a comic touch
-- such as Lawrence Shames or Carl Hiaasen. Any suggestions?

have been in Grapevine. Stop and say howdy next time.

Of course, if it's Florida fiction in general that you seek, John D.
MacDonald sets most of his mysteries in the Sunshine State; the Travis McGee
Color series is best known, but there are many, many others.

Buffett also wrote a mystery novel, "Where is Joe Merchant?" As he is a
parrothead, it's probably Florida-set also (I haven't read it).
