One of my board members is looking for a fiction book about Rebecca in the
Bible. She believes that the word "red" is in the title. Does anyone
recognize this?
Many thanks.

<< Thank you to everyone who responded to my query. Everyone agreed that the
novel is probably "The Red Tent" by Anita Diamant and that it is about
Dinah, not Rebecca. >>
I hate to toss in a monkey wrench, here, but I think there was an older
generation novel, perhaps written by Gladys Malvern, or someone like here.
But the biblical heroine was not Rebecca. I believe she might have been the
woman who helped the Hebrew spies in Canaan. And I thought the book might
have been called The Red Cord. I'm sure the title is wrong - but it won't go
away. I thought the woman's name was Rahab. I'm going to check on this
further.

Speaking of racy, remember Jarret's Jade by Frank Yerby. I read that on
under the
covers!

Somewhat less racy, but full of rich period detail, are the histnov's of F.
Van Wyck Mason. These would probably be acceptable to teens. I might
suggest "The Silver Leopard" (medieval times) or any of the Civil War or
Revolutionary novels, or "Manila Galleon." He also wrote several about
Ancient Times which are harder to find. (I got lucky when I worked in a
used-book store 25 years ago--I think I own them all!) Highly recommended.
