I have a patron interested in doing research on how to make
heroines in young adult literature more appealing to
adolescent male readers. This is going to be subjective and
"fuzzy" I realize, but does anyone have any suggestions on
current (and older) ya titles with heroines that would
appeal to male readers?
Thanks! Beth

I would recommend Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi
Crusader by Edward Bloor
Lois Duncan's books especially Killing Mr. Griffin and Don't Look Behind You

I'm not sure if her books are considered YA, but I would think any of
Mercedes Lackey's fantasy tales would fill the bill. I'm thinking
particularly of the Valdemar series, which include the Mage Wars Trilogy,
Vows & Honor Trilogy, By the Sword, Heralds of Valdemar Trilogy, Last Herald
Mage Trilogy, Mage Winds Trilogy, and Mage Storms Trilogy. To date, 19
books. Many of the main characters are strong, competent young women--the
kind a boy might like to be pals with because they don't *demand.*
