Many years ago I read a fiction book about a single woman who took in one
stray cat and then another. The book is chiefly about the cats' adventures.
After reading Susan Fromberg Schaeffer's "The autobiography of Foudini M.
Cat" (which I highly recommend) I was reminded of this other book and would
like to re-read it but I have been unable to locate it. I thought the book
was called "Back Fence Story" but I can't find a trace. Does this ring a
bell? It is not "The Fur Person".

This sounds like _SEVEN CATS and the ART OF LIVING_ written and illustrated
by Jo Coudert...

Walker, Augusta. A Back-Fence Story. Knopf, 1967.
