Hi Everyone,
Can anyone recommend some authors and titles of Christian and
inspirational fiction for young adults? I'm looking for adult titles
suitable for young adults as well. I've looked through some issues of
Booklist that we have, but I could use some more examples. Thank you in
advance for your help.

Regarding YA Christian fiction:

I would recommend Loree Lough's Steeple Hill books, for Silhouette's Love
Inspired line.

Although YA fiction isn't my "usual" area, I was consulted by my
library's (now gone) youth services librarian on titles to add to the
YA section. I suggested the following: Linda Chaikin -- The Silk
trilogy, Jane Peart -- "Brides" series, Bodie Thoene -- The Zion
Chronicles and The Zion Covenant, Stephen Lawhead -- The
Dragon King trilogy, Hilda Stahl -- The White Pine Chronicles,
Sandy Dengler -- The Australian Destiny series.

The above are also considered adult level (but are "safe" in the
respect there is no graphic sex or violence), but they have been
quite popular with the YAs, too.

I also suggested she visit the local Christian bookstore which she
did. She was fortunate to run into a teen clerk who really helped
her find what is popular with her age group; maybe somesuch
exists in your area (both the store and a clerk)? I remember the
clerk suggested the Jennie McGrady mystery series by Patricia
Rushford and Cedar River Daydreams by Judy Baer. I know there
were others, but don't remember specifics....

I know many teenagers who have been avidly reading the "Left Behind" series
by Tim LaHaye.

Ruby, there is a great book I just found in my library called Developing
Christian Fiction Collections for Children and Adults by Barbara J. Walker.
I like it so much I'm going to buy my own copy. Chapter 5 is a core list of
Christian fiction titles for young adults. It also includes core lists for
children and adults.

YA recommendations from the book that I have read:
The Atonement Child by Francine Rivers (excellent, but possibly a
controversial topic- abortion)
Voyage of the Exiles by Patricia Hickman (very good series about the
settling of Australia)

Other authors like Oke, Thoene, Hunt are mentioned. I definitely recommend
you get hold of a copy of Walters book. Hope this helps.

I also just finished Francine Rivers Mark of the Lion series. It's not
specifically YA, but I think appropriate. It was excellent. I think
anything by Rivers would be appropriate for YA as well as adult.

Also agree with the recommendation on "Left Behind" series as well as the
"Left Behind Kids" series now out.

Hi: Any of Grace Livingston Hill books are great for teens-- also the
series "Journals of Corrie Belle Hollister" by Michael Phillips and Judith

If your YA audience includes those of a less evangelical bent, the writing
of Madeleine L'Engle is profoundly Christian, though not overtly so.
