Any chance someone out there may recognize this book for my patron?

Written maybe 15 years ago, this horror/suspense novel dealt with an
experiment where people were given a series of pills. Then pain was
exerted somehow. The experiment was to see how much pain they could
take. Patron thinks title may have included the word "Oh pain".

Any ideas?
