My patron remembers a lot of details about this book, but not author or
title: Female character is a food critic, living possibly in Miami. She
goes to Manhattan to review a restaurant, by cab. The cabbie's father is in
a rest home in Miami, but he had some connection to gun dealing. She says
it was a hardback book and read it about a year ago.

This may be Phyllis Richman's, Murder on the Gravy Train, although the food
critic in those is from Washington D.C. The other details seem to fit,
though.

Thanks to Erin Saylor and her suggestion of Phyllis Richman's book. I had
the answer before I saw my message posted... (ah the wonders of cyberspace).
