A Branch staff member is looking for a specific Western book for a patron who does not remember the title or author. The story is about a young girl who dresses up like a boy and joins a wagon train heading West. She is running away from an abusive stepfather. She takes her two slaves with her. She ends up falling in love with the wagon train leader, who doesn't realize she is a girl until close to the end of the book.

Any help identifying this book would be VERY much appreciated!!!

I'm sure I saw a book recently which fits this description. I believe it
may have been by Jack Ballas. Hope this helps!

One possible title is Sisters of the Confederacy: Secret Refuge, Bk. 2 by
Lauraine Snelling. It doesn't involve an abusive stepfather though.

Also, Patricia Potter wrote a Western historical romance with a similar
theme, but the title escapes me.

Found it!!! The title was Ride the Wild River by Gilbert Morris. Thank you for your help!
