I had to branch off of this Potter comment to just general audios. Many
times having read the book I do hesitate to suggest the audio or when I do I
offer a warning. Mainly because hearing sex and violence and rough language
is very different than reading it. I think it also takes you by surprise
whereas reading it you can see the violence coming and skip if you want. I
remember the first time I was with my 13 year old and had a book on in the
car, not especially an adult book, and the word f**k was said. I wanted to
sink in my seat. If I was alone it probably wouldn't have bothered me that
much. Of course my son said, "don't worry Mom I hear that all the time at
school." That was not comforting but the situation has made me more
sensitive to audio books.
