Oh Yes! Angelique was so much fun! In fact, I've been collecting them in
hardback for a
few years now. I know I could find them all on bookfinder, but it's much
more fun to
scrounge around in used bookstores! Angelique has always been a guilty
pleasure.

Oh, lots of people imitated ERB, as I'm sure Dennis would agree! Lin Carter
comes to mind...Gardner F. Fox...Michael Moorcock under a pseudoonym (wasn't
it Edward Bradbury, Dennis?)...

There is this to say about Burroughs--and about Robert E. Howard--he could
tell a story. Either of them could have made it back in the days when
literary criticism involded M'lord's whacking somebody with his trusty
sword.

Actually, I miss heroic fantasy. So much of fantasy seems derivative of
Burroughs, the pulp writers (especially Howard) and Tolkien that I find it
difficult to get a satisfying read from more contemporary authors (Gaiman
and DeLint aside).
>>
I always thought Roger Zelazny was writing a kind or heroic fantasy - esp.
the "Amber" series. Or maybe it's really sword and sorcery...

I guess that just goes to show that Burroughs, Howard, and Tolkien, between
them, invented/defined the genre as we now know it!
