Even though this is non-fiction....has anyone used Travels with Charley for
book discussion? If so, might you pass along a few ideas/questions for
discussion? I have some questions and reveiws, but it's always nice to get

I wrote a lengthy research paper on this book my freshman year in college
(too long ago to be comfortable stating the date) and it has stayed with me
lo, these many years.

A discussion on Steinbeck's lament on the loss of regional differences at
that time contrasted with today's emphasis on multiculturism; his reaction
to the power of the desert landscape; identifying 'American' traits he
thought he discerned--all would be productive.

As I recall, I did get an A on that paper.

Hello,
I don't know how helpful this might be, but there's a link to some
infor on "Travels with Charley" from the site of the National Steinbeck
Center in Salinas, California. I just did a quick search there and found
this, but there may be links to more.
I lived in Salinas and visited the Center: if you're a fan of
Steinbeck and are ever in the area, visit it. It's a real treasure. Or you
can visit it on the web!
