I work with a special population and I hope you can help me. A therapist and I are looking for books about a teenage girl's account of rape. It can be either fiction or nonfiction, but it has to be recent. I've searched my public library system, South Central Library System and haven't found much. The therapist want to use them with the resident. Any ideas? Thanks so much.

A wonderful new YA fiction book, SPEAK by Laurie Halse Anderson, is about a
teen girl's way of dealing with the aftermath of a rape she was too scared
to report.

This YA novel isn't *real* recent (1976), but does provide an
apparently realistic look at a teenager's rape and aftermath.
Perhaps all *too* realistically, it is downbeat about the
possibilities of achieving any kind of justice--there is no
happy ending.

This is a difficult subject in terms of books with the right sensitivity; the
closest that I can think of is called "If I Should Die Before I Wake" where
the authoress' name in the original edition was suppressed. It may be worth
searching for by title...

Though older, Edna Ferber's books usually tracked several generations of
women - So Big, Ice Palace, Cimarron, etc. Also Catherine Cookson's books
do this - at least in the few I have read.
