The one's I'd recommend are :

1. Jennie - by Paul Gallico, about the love between a boy-turned-into-a-cat
and a real cat
2. Daddy Long Legs - by Jean Webster, a one-sided epistolary romance
3. Toilers of the Sea - by Victor Hugo, saga of one man's love for the sea
competing with his unrequited love for a woman
4. Pied Piper - by Nevil Shute, a love story without a love affair

Another "different" love story is Wilderness by Dennis Danvers.
It's an imaginative love story between a female werewolf and
her college professor boyfriend. Suspenseful and erotic.
