Help! A patron just called to say she and her husband love the Bruce
Alexander historical mystery novels featuring Sir John Fielding - and
she would like to know his real name so she can read other books he has
written. None of my mystery resources list him, neither do my pseudonym
books. I also checked Amazon.com but they just said his name was "a
pseudonym for a well-known author of fiction and nonfiction." I told
the woman I would check a few resources and call her back later today,
if possible. Thanks for all the information you can give me.

Hi Renee,

Bruce Alexander's real name is Bruce Cook and, in his real life, Mr.
Cook is a former LA Daily News book editor and author of fiction and
nonfiction. Under his real moniker, Mr. Cook has written a mystery
series about a Chicano detective named Antonio "Chico" Cervantes.
Titles in that series include Mexican Standoff (1988), Rough Cut (1990),
Death as a Career Move (1992), and Sidewalk Hilton (1994). Cook's
non-fiction work includes a study of the Beat Generation and a country
music and travel guide.

Yesterday a patron asked us the same question. All we could find was
that Hawk's Authors' Pseudonyms II lists a Bruce Alexander Montague for
Bruce Alexander. He could be the Bruce Montague who narrates some books
on tape published in England, but that is only speculation.
