Yes, we offer this service. We call it "Favorite
Authors Club." We have had it for about a year, and
it has gone over very well.
Hope this helps,
Angie

Do you order one copy per reserve?
If not, how do you determine who is first on the list? I am trying
to envision this in our very large system where I think we could have
hundreds of requests. Even if we ordered plenty, I think we would not be
able to get one copy per request.
How do you maintain the list? Do you start to get people who have
moved, died, no longer interested, etc. clogging it up?
Does it often happen that people on the list don't actually come in
and pick up the book?
Thanks for your help and advice.

We have a service called the F.A.N. Club--F.A.N. stands for Favorite
Authors Now. The holds are placed whenever we order from
McNaughton, with the exception of Oprah's monthly picks, which we
order
from other sources besides McNaughton. We have 25 authors for
patrons to
choose; they fill out a form checking off their favorite authors and
then
whenever that author has an upcoming book and it becomes available
through McNaughton, we go ahead and order multiple copies to fill
the
demand. For example, we would order at least 60 copies of any John
Grisham book because of the number of people who have signed up for
his
books through the FAN Club! Over 150 patrons are participating in
the FAN
Club, which we started in Nov. 1998. If you need any more info,
e-mail me
outside the list!

Two and a half years ago the Roselle Public Library in Illinois
started
this extremely successful service. They offer 100 authors and call
it the
100 Best Sellers. The idea was taken from a county library in
Missouri I
think. The authors on this list were available on B&T Automatically
Yours
standing order service which was quite helpful in making sure the
correct
number of copies were ordered. The patrons really liked it!
