I received the following e-mail from a former patron asking about a young
adult title that she read yaers ago. I am hoping that the following
description might ring a bell with one of you. Thanks in advance!
"I lived in Kentwood from 1979-1982, and while there, checked out many
books
from your branch. One book in particular has stayed with me over the
years. The problem is, I can't remember the name, the author, or really
much about it. I am hoping that there is some way you can help.
Here is what I recall. It was probably a young adult hardcover novel,
with
a dustjacket. The plot seems to have been something like this. The
narrator (don't know if it was a young boy or girl, but I believe girl)
had
a friend named Byron. The setting may have been rural (the South?), it
probably took place during the summer, and possibly was set during the
Depression (this is a guess). Anyway, Byron was tied up to a pickup truck
and dragged behind it, and was killed. This is just about all I recall
about the book. The only other thing that might help is that I would have
checked it out in 1981 or 1982, so it must have been published prior to
that time."

Kentwood Branch personal and do not reflect
Kent District Library official library policy or
Grand Rapids, MI statements."
"There is a time in the life of every problem when it is big enough to see
yet small enough to solve." Mike Leavitt
