We have a patron who read a story or short novel a long time ago, that she is trying to find again. She thinks it was called the Rose and it was made into a movie (NOT the one with Bette Midler). Her version is about a Jewish tradition where a widow's brother-in-law takes care of her kids(?) after her husband dies.
Does this ring a bell with anyone?
Thanks in advance!

This movie was based on a novel though I don't remember the exact title.
The young boy's name was Momo.
I do remember seeing a movie at a Jewish film festival many years ago
with the plot suggested by your patron.

I found it! The book was called "Madame Rosa" and was written by
Romain Gary.
