I have a request from a patron for a scifi series he
remembers reading several years ago. It involves an
isolated planet which retreats to a feudal state after
the collapse of an intergalactic empire. The hero is
the son of the queen and a prince regent; the hero's
mother is from the planet Beta where there are some
sort of uterine replicators, which is apparently a key
point. The hero is small in stature or frail,
according to the patron, due to this replicator
process. The warrior class is called something like
"Vor." I have still have no ideas after major
searching. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

This is Lois McMaster Bujold's "Miles Vorkosigan" series. Truly
wonderful. First book is _The Warrior's Apprentice_.

Sounds like the books about Miles Vorkosigan by Lois McMaster Bujold.
They actually start with, I think, Shards of Honor, which is about Miles'
parents. A great series.
