Don't tell me -- I just know we've done this topic before, but I can't
remember when in order to check the archives. Will anyone be kind enough to
direct me, or to repeat the sage advice they gave at the time? I am looking
for "high/low" books (high interest for adults/relatively low vocabulary and
fairly simple style) that would appeal to adult new readers of English as a
second language. Most of the references I come up with are either for
adaptations (and my patrons don't want that) or for YA books (and they are
tired of books with teens as the main characters). I think something a
little more contemporary than the so-called classics would be appreciated as
well. Any suggestions of recent books that fit the bill? Or places I can
look for suggestions?

You may want to try Avalon Books. They specialize in genre books that are
"wholesome" reads...no objectional language or material etc. If you go to
their "librarian's corner" link you'll see that their books are considered
ideal for bookmobiles and ESL folks. May want to take a look around at
www.avalonbooks.com.
