OK - here's the question. The 16 year old boy likes
mysteries, but has only read the Hardy Boys and Nancy
Drew. He also likes true stories about cops. This is
all I know because the mother had to leave. I tried
Earl Emerson, but she didn't like that. She said her
son doesn't like baseball, so there went Troy Soos.
What would you suggest for a 16 year old boy? Thanks.

Dick Francis has a little more descriptive violence and a wee touch more sex
(but not much), but would still be a good choice.

My absolute first choice would be Tony Hillerman -- not too much explicit
violence, no sex but an occasional non-sappy love interest, tons of cool
stuff about Native American culture. There are two series protagonists, the
younger of whom (Jim Chee) is always having some sort of an identity crisis
which might strike a chord with a 16-year-old.
Dick Francis has a little more descriptive violence and a wee touch more sex
(but not much), but would still be a good choice.
