Hello - I have a patron who is trying to remember a certain private
detective series. Apparently this series features a female detective
living in a guest house. The main house belongs to an elderly man who
loves fried bologna sandwiches; he often invites our heroine in to
share them.

It sure sounds like Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone series. She lives in a
converted garage/guesthouse behind a house owned by an older man named
Henry, a retired baker who still creates glorious creations in his kitchen.
In at least one of the books (L Is for Lawless), she eats a fried bologna
sandwich which was prepared by her client.

Isn't this Kinsey Milhone in the Sue Grafton series. Kinsey lives in an attached garage. I think, and her landlord is an elderly man. I don't remeber if he likes fried bologna sandwiches or not but, if i am remebering correctly, Kinsey consumes some offbeat combinations.

Hmm. I'm not in a place where I can check, but this may be Henry Pitts,
Sue Grafton's PI Kinsey Millhone's landlord. I don't specifically
remember fried bologna sandwiches, but I know that he often cooks and
bakes for her, and she loves junk food.

It has to be Sue Grafton's KINSEY MILLHONE MYSTERIES. It's a wonderful
series. The titles follow the alphabet beginning with "A" is for alibi up
to, at least "O" is for outlaw. Hope it's the one you were looking for.

This has been answered but thought I would confirm the answer. This
happened once in a Sue Grafton myster and is not a regular event. It
was in one of the last 3-4, but not in "O". She is questioning a man
at his house who is making a fried bologna sandwich. She is so
hungry that she offers him a hundred bucks to make her one. Her
landlord Henry is a retired baker and often makes her baked goodies.
