Hi,
I thought I'd add my opinion on recent books. Two books I hated this year
were Cold Mountain (Boring!) and A Widow for One Year (also boring with
uninteresting characters). I promised myself I will never, ever, force
myself to read another John Irving book in my life (the 3 I have read have
all been duds).
On the positive side, books I would certainly give as gifts would be: Snow
Falling on Cedars by David Guterson, Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks, Alias
Grace by Margaret Atwood, Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden, and for
lighter stuff, Where the Heart Is by Billie Letts.
Back to the Books,
Patricia.

I am working today so I had to respond on "Midnight in the Garden
of Good and Evil." I am one who liked it. I rather liked reading
about all thos dysfunctional characters. I am using this book in
my Adult Book Discussion Group in January. I chose the theme of
"Regional Reads." I felt that this fit very well. Have not seen the
movie yet. Our movie expert on staff, who is quite good, said it
was not great.Did anyone have to read "Silas Marner" in high school. We did. It
is another that I disliked.
I have enjoyed this thread very much.
