I've been asked to find the lyrics to 12 different polkas. I was able to
find 6 of them via various Internet searches. Can any of you supply the
lyrics for the following titles?:
Double Eagle Polka
Friendly Tavern Polka
Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight
Hoop-Dee-Doo
Just Because
Pennsylvania Polka
Thank you!!

Hoop-dee-doo, Hoop-dee-doo,
I hear a polka and my troubles are through.
Hoop-dee-doo, Hoop-dee-dee,
this kind of music is like heaven to me.
Hoop-dee-doo, Hoop-dee-doo,
It's got me higher than a kite.
Hand me down my soup and fish,
I am gonna get my wish Hoop-dee-dooin' it tonight!
When there's a trombone playin' rah-ta- dah-dah-dah,
I get a thrill---I always will.
When there's a concertina stretchin' out a mile
I always smile, cause that's my style.
When there's a fiddle in the middle and he plays the tune so sweet,
Plays the tune so sweet that I could die.
Lead me to the floor, and hear me yell for more
'cause I'm a Hoop-dee-dooin' kind of guy!
I'm in clover, I'm in bloom,
When I'm dancin' give me room!
Hoop-dee-dooin' it with all of my might,
Rain may fall and snow may come,
Nothin's gonna stop me from Hoop-dee-dooin it tonight!
Those are the lyrics I found in our music section from "The Best of Frank
Loesser Songbook." There are several versions of "Just Because" and I
wasn't sure which one you wanted. None of them are termed as a polka tune.
One was a hit in 1989 and another is originally a country and western song
that was adapted by several different groups, including the McGuire sisters
in 1961. I am banking on the country western one as the one you may want,
but it has many verses. Let me know what you think and I could mail it to
you if you wish. Also have "Hot Time in the Old Town" from a collection of
1890-1920's music--is this the one you are looking for?

Late last night when we were all in bed,
Old Lady Leary left a lantern in the shed.
Well, the cow kicked it over, and this is what they said:
"There'll be a hot time in the old town tonight!"
FIRE, FIRE, FIRE!
When you hear those bells go ding-a-ling,
All join 'round and sweetly you must sing.
And when the verse is through, in the chorus all join in:
"There'll be a hot time in the old town tonight!"
Silly variant:
Ten nights dark when bed we all were in,
Old Leary lady hung the shed her lantern in,
And when the kick cowed it over, she eyed her wink and said
"There'll be town hot in the time old tonight!"

The version of "Just Because" that I've heard as a polka tune is the
one that starts approximately--
"Just because you think you're so pretty,
Just because you think you're so hot,
Just because you think you've got something
That nobody else has got...
<and continues with>
Just because you spend all my money,
Then laugh and call me Old Santa Claus--
Well, I'm telling you, baby, I'm through with you--
Because--just Because!

Of course, this is not exactly a Fiction-L question; shouldn't it be
submitted to Stumpers-L or a music-related list instead?
