We had a patron in today in a similar situation, but who was looking for
suspenseful (but not gory) mysteries, preferably in interesting
settings. She took home Dana Stabenow, among others.
But for your request, perhaps Katie Fforde? British, funny, and usually
women in their late 30s, early 40s. b She's also good with interesting
settings: canal boats, greenhouses or gardens, the construction
industry. Animal Husbandry by laura Zigman is another funny, but not
zany, novel of romance and its quandaries. I also like Amanda Quick's
historical, sexy, witty romances.
Best,
Roberta

I have a middle-aged woman looking for "light" reading to help her through
the grief of losing her husband. She was not a big reader before, but
would like to get into reading, now. She has read Danielle Steel but
really wants something lighter (and not having women who lose their
husbands as a large part of the plot). In other words, light romance with
humor - books to keep her from dwelling on her situation. This is not my
area of expertise and the two Lavyrl Spencer books I have read both have
middle-aged women whose husbands have just died!e
I need the collective wisdom of you readers!
