I have a patron looking for an author of books like Forester's Hornblower series.
He believes they are British Navy stories, set during the Napoleonic Wars.
He also thinks that this is a new series.
Does this ring any bells?
Thanks,

You can find an annotated reading list I did of late 18th and early 19th
century sailing fiction at: http://www.wrl.org/REF/Booklists/sailing.html.
I hope this helps.

The main character is female and in fact this series fits another thread
that was running on the list. David Weber has written a great female
character.
Series order:
On Basilisk Station
Honor of the Queen
The Short Victorious War
Field of Dishonor
Flag in Exile
Honor Among Enemies
In Enemy Hands
Echoes of Honor
Ashes of Victory (forthcoming in March 2000)
Hope this helps,
