We have an elderly patron who is looking for mysteries read far in the past
featuring a character named ABC Fox (A.B.C. Foxx?) The series probably was
written sometime between the 1920's to 1950's, but we're a little shaky on
the time frame.

Off the top of my head, I seem to remember that Rex Stout wrote several
books
about a lawyer who I think was named Fox.--ah yes, "The Mystery Index"
(ALA.,
1997) says Tecumseh Fox. Titles, "Bad for Business"; "The Broken Vase";
"Double for Death". All were published in the '40s.
Another thought, Jack Foxx is a pseud. of Bill Pronzini, but those were
published in the 70s.
