This may be a bit off the mark, but how about One Flew Over the Cuckoo's
Nest and Michael Malone's Handling Sin? They certainly have religious
themes, although they are not explicitly Biblical.

Try Messiah by Boris Starling. It's new in paperback. It's a thriller that involves a serial killer who believes that he is
the Messiah and is collecting his apostles one by one. I'm not sure if that's what the patron is looking for, but I thought I'd
suggest it anyway.

I'm not at work this week but I wanted to mention one of my
favorite books: Knowledge of Angels by Jill Paton Walsh.
If you're looking for authors who consistently write with
religions themes, I'm not certain she belongs here, since
her series mysteries are not religious, and I can't speak
for her other standalone books. However, if you're
including individual titles, this one certainly should make
the cut.
