I would highly reccommend the Jupiter Novel series. All feature YA
protagonists, scientific & personal problems to be overcome, are clean as a
whistle and entertaining reads
James P. Hogan Outward Bound
Jerry Pournelle Starswarm
Charles Sheffield Higher Education
Billion Dollar Boy
Putting Up Roots
Cyborg From Earth

These are just a few but I hope that is a start for you. WWW.AMAZON.COM has
several different lists you can check--I found it a very good resource.
Good Luck!
