Nice adventure stories

I have an elderly patron who wants to read "nice adventure" stories. She is
very specific about not wanting either romance or espionage, no guns and no
"saga type" books. She is not keen on mysteries but rather a story about
someone taking a trip and the adventures along the way.
I went back to a booklist on Road Novels and the list on Travelogues but
nothing seemed to appeal.

Heidi's Alp: One Family's Search for Storybook Europe --
Christina Hardyment. Just what it says, parents and children
search out the settings of their favorite children's books;
quite enjoyable

Trustee From the Toolroom by Nevil Shute - aboutan engineer who rescues a
fortune from a boat
Toilers of the Sea by Victor Hugo - Same idea, probably the inspiration for
the Nevil Shute novel!
Three Singles to Adventure by Gerald Durrell - Hilarious account of
animal-collecting trip
River Sutra by Gita Mehta - About the Narmada pigrimage, done solo through
perilous forests, an unusual blend of fiction and non-fiction
