A patron is looking for a book he read about ten years ago. He remembers
that the title was "The Sounding" or "The Soundings." It was fiction and
had to do with whales and sea life. He read it in paperback.

I've checked Novelist, Library of Congress online, amazon.com, bn.com, etc.
Does anyone have any ideas for me?

The book by that name that I remember is THE SOUNDING by Hank Searls. I
believe it's about a whale, a Russian submarine sailor, and some plot to
kill the whale. Somehow (I think) the Russian ends up helping or saving
the whale. I don't know -- it's been along time. HTH. BYE!
