The Monsters of Morley Manor: A Madcap Adventure. Anthony and his younger sister discover that the monster figures he got in an unusual box at an estate sale are alive, but they have no way of knowing that the "monsters" will lead them on fantastical adventures to other worlds in an effort to try to save Earth.

Crilley, Mark.

Billy Clikk: Creatch Battler. Sixth-grader Billy Clikk's family BUGZ-B-GON business has his parents working unusual hours. Then he accidentally discovers that they are actually secret agents for the Allied Forces for the Management of Extraterritorial Creatches. AFMEC operatives protect the human world from a dizzying variety of weird beasties using an array of specialized high-tech weaponry.

Billy Clikk: Rogmasher Rampage. Billy is a normal sixth grader-except for the fact that his parents are not really exterminators but instead work for AFMEC (Allied Forces for the Management of Extraterritorial Creatches) fighting the incursion of aliens across the globe. In this second book in the series, Billy, a trainee, goes on his first mission for AFMEC without his mom and dad.

Daley, Michael J.
Space Station Rat. A lavender rat that has escaped from a laboratory, and a lonely boy whose parents are scientists, meet on an orbiting space station, communicate by email, and ultimately find themselves in need of each other's help and friendship.

Dexter, Catherine.

DuPrau, Jeanne.

What starts as a simple trip to Edinburgh ends with a frosty rescue mission to the frozen north that includes saving the world.

The Exchange Student. When her mother arranges to host one of the young people coming to Earth from Chela, Daria is both pleased and intrigued by the keen interest shown by the Chelan in her work breeding endangered species.

Can of Worms. Bullied and unhappy at school, thirteen-year-old Mike, who has always thought that he might be an alien, sends a distress call into space asking to be rescued from the ignorance and cruelty of his life on Earth.

Paulsen Gary.
The Time Hackers. When someone uses futuristic technology to play pranks on twelve-year-old Dorso Clayman, he and his best friend set off on a supposedly impossible journey through space and time trying to stop the gamesters who are endangering the universe.

Peck, Richard.

Lizard Music. When left to take care of himself, a young boy becomes involved with a community of intelligent lizards who tell him of a little-known invasion from outer space.

Pratchett, Terry.
Only You Can Save Mankind. Twelve-year-old Johnny endures tensions between his parents, watches television coverage of the Gulf War, and plays a computer game called Only You Can Save Mankind, in which he is increasingly drawn into the reality of the alien ScreeWee.

Rector, Rebecca Kraft.
Tria and the Great Star Rescue. On the planet Chiron, a girl who has been afraid to venture Outside must face germs and other frights when her mother and her holographic best friend, Star, are kidnapped.

Shanback, Mindy.

Princess from Another Planet. Fourteen-year-old Gracie Wright escapes her impoverished and unconventional life by impersonating her rich cousin at an exclusive summer camp, until a series of weird events convinces her that her mother's delusions about being the deposed queen of a distant planet just might be true.

While staying with their hippie grandparents, ten-year-old twins, Tod and Tessa, discover an unusual shop at the nearby mall, where they find a lie-detecting electronic pet, a Do-Right machine, and other alien gadgets which help them foil their nemeses, the evil Gneiss twins.

Waugh, Sylvia.

Earthborn. Upon suddenly learning that her parents are researchers from another planet and they must leave in seven days or risk discovery, twelve-year-old Nesta decides to stay in their York, England, home, whether or not her parents go.
